Blood Maidens (James Asher #3) Hard Mated (Shifters Unbound #3.5)

She wished they’d been less careful. When she ran into Lorraine in the high street—her mother, conscious that her father’s spies might be around, wanted to hurry her back—Claire stopped and said hello. She couldn’t help it; she drank in every feature of Lorraine’s full vase-shape; her newly rounded, pale breasts; the tight, high bump, so unfathomable that inside was another being; the trembling, defiant look in her eye.

‘It’s been very useful, actually,’ said Issy, crossly.‘So you are who, exactly?’ said Marian.

Lucky Starr and the Big Sun of Mercury (Lucky Starr #4)

‘I’m Austin’s little brother. Austin’s her boyfriend.’ Darny made a face and Marian laughed.‘I didn’t know you had a boyfriend,’ she said.‘Austin,’ said Issy patiently. ‘The tall chap that was at the funeral? Whose house I live in? Whom I talk about on the phone?’

Mine (Real #2)

‘Oh yes, ooh yes, of course I did,’ said Marian. ‘I must meet him one day.’‘You have met him,’ said Issy. ‘Four times.’

‘Oh, of course I have. Good for you! Now, Darny, tell me some of the nonsense they’ve been teaching you in school.’

And to Issy’s absolute surprise, Darny launched into a long story about their sex-education teacher who had got all wobbly and upset doing something unfortunate with a banana. It was a funny story and Marian listened carefully and asked pertinent questions, and then they both got stuck into a discussion of why they had to use rabbits for sex information and why couldn’t they use those gay penguins, and Issy couldn’t help but be struck by the fact that Marian was obviously enjoying the conversation – they both were – but also that she was talking to Darny as if they were both adults, or both teenagers, she couldn’t quite tell which one. At any rate, in a way that they managed to understand one another. She watched them with some sadness. Darny was so sparky, so full of contrariness and argument. She found it wearing and problematic, but to her mother it was clearly a challenge. Yet she herself had spent so much time as a daughter trying to be good, and behave herself, and gain appreciation for that.Hey sweetie, you ready to see some smelly farm animals. Julia laughed, her nose scrunched. She picked Oliver up for a giant hug and held him tightly in her arms.

Mark looked over at me and opened his mouth to speak, but snapped it shut after I shot him a threatening glare. He cleared his throat, and shoved his hands deep in the pocket of his hoodie.Hi, Cassandra. I love your sweater. Julia smiled. I wondered what she knew about Mark and me.

Sweet Soul (Sweet Home #4)

Thanks, hope you don’t mind me coming today.Of course not, the more the merrier, she said with a sincere smile, Logan seems to enjoy having you around.

We’ve been getting along pretty well.I’m sure you have been, Jax snickered. I looked down, embarrassed. So they did think I was sleeping with him.

Ignore him. I looked up to see Julia roll her eyes at Jax. He’s just not sure how to act around you after Logan threatened to disown him if he so much as flirts in your direction. An awkward, broken chuckle caught in my throat. Why would Logan care who flirts in my direction? My sight narrowed to the ground, with a bemused smile.

She raised her eyebrow, as if she knew something I didn’t, then shrugged. Who knows. She grinned. But you’re the first girl he’s brought around us and—Julia was cut off as Oliver wiggled out of her arms and planted his feet back on the ground. We laughed, watching him adjust his coat in a huff. He looked up at Mark curiously.
